Specialty Materials' Seelze, Germany, site recently presented its local voluntary fire brigade with a $5,000 grant. The funds, given under Honeywell Hometown Solutions' 101A community grant program, will be used to support a new fire brigade.
Seelze mayor, Detlef Schallhorn, was present during the ceremony, along with the leader of the voluntary fire brigade, Alfred Blume, who also works for Honeywell, and three other Specialty Materials employees who are volunteer fire brigadiers.
During the presentation, Alfred updated the audience on the brigade's 2009 activities. The group provided assistance to the community in 854 instances, including tending to a defective gas line, responding to a fire, measuring environmental excursions, organizing community drills, and educating students at local schools about fire safety and drug-abuse prevention.
"We really appreciate the fantastic job the voluntary fire brigade is doing," said Peter Degenkolb, site manager. "With our grant, we want to support the invaluable contributions that the brigade provides the community."
